Stephanie Locey is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator.
I grew up in beautiful Sonoma County where I was exposed to the arts at a young age. As a child I was always drawing, and by the time I was 10 I had developed an obsession with perfecting my handwriting. I started painting and sculpting at 13, and around that same age started saving my allowance money to buy Vogue magazine so that I could look through the editorials. I remember wondering whose job it was to decide who wore what, who stood where, and how the lighting would look. Who got to chose the final layout of the page, and decide what the captions should read? Who got to choose the typeface used? Who was responsible for creating the very essence, the very emotion of that spread? I spent many days re-drawing those images first with pencil, then with charcoal, and eventually, pastels.
As the years passed and my ADHD became more apparent, I would find that many artistic hobbies would come and go; knitting, painting, foam-smithing, prop-making, screen printing... yet the need to create remained a constant in my life. Today, I enjoy bringing those skills and talents to my designs, which are more focused on creating a better world than creating a beautiful editorial moment.
As a designer my interests lie in telling stories by creating experiences, not brief impressions. Unsatisfied with corporate branding or logo design, I seek to find ways that graphic design can be used to enhance the way we experience and understand the world around us, and each other. I design with empathy, attention to detail and versatility. My designs reflect my passion for design that is research driven, purposeful, and intentional in it’s form and function.
